After breakfast we journey into the heart of Colombia's coffee region for a two night stay at Hacienda Venecia, an authentic, family run coffee estancia nestled in the mountains.
Thanks to the tropical altitude and fertile volcanic soil, Colombia is one of the world’s biggest coffee producers.
You’ll get to know this addictive little bean much better on a guided tour of the coffee plantation and processing centre today. Dig into the history of the plant, learning the inside story of the industry that's long buoyed the country's economy. See how the beans are grown and harvested, processed, dried, roasted and ground, and then sample first-hand what all the fuss is about. You’ll try different types of coffee grains and get a lesson on preparing them, finishing it all off with a steaming cup of freshly brewed joe.
Later, relax amid the estancia's beautiful surroundings of sloping green hills and valleys or maybe cool off in the swimming pool.

DAY 6: Chinchiná-Jericó-Medellin
Meals Included: Breakfast
Meals Included: Breakfast
Today we travel to Medellín, visiting Jericó, a heritage village located approximately 120 kilometres south-west of Medellín in Antioquia. Jericó is renowned as the birthplace of Santa Madre Laura Montoya, canonised in 2013 by Pope Francis. Her legacy contributes significantly to the village's fame, with effigies commemorating her presence throughout the area.
We'll learn about how Medellin spent the 1980s and 90s with an international reputation as one of the world's most dangerous cities (no thanks to Pablo Escobar's notorious drug cartel). Medellin has now turned itself around to become one of the most exciting cities in South America. With some of the country's finest museums, parks and architecture (and a much safer and more comfortable atmosphere), it's easy to see why it's getting more popular.
Tonight, you’re free to relax or ask your leader for the best local hang outs where you can try some arepas (crispy white corn cakes usually stuffed with meat and vegetables.)

DAY 7: Medellin
Meals Included: Breakfast
Meals Included: Breakfast
Twenty years ago, Medellín was one of the most dangerous cities in the world. In the early 1990s, during the pursuit of Pablo Escobar, the head of the Medellín drug cartel, the city was at its peak of violence.
However, the era of "El Patrón" eventually came to an end. Despite continued struggles over Escobar's successor until the early 2000s, Medellín began to undergo significant changes in 2002. Local politicians began investing heavily in infrastructure and public education. Today, the "City of Eternal Spring" stands as one of the most innovative metropolises globally.
Today, we’ll take part in a Barrio transformation tour. We take a metro cable to Acevedo to meet our local guide and discover more about how Medellin has transformed its most populated neighbourhoods. We’ll explore its history, the struggle of its people, the outstanding achievements and the different faces of the city’s recent transformation including the vibrant Comuna 13, renowned for its street art and culture.
After that we will head to the heart of Medellin for an exciting salsa class! Learn the rhythm and moves of this iconic Colombian dance in a fun and friendly atmosphere, perfect for beginners and seasoned dancers alike.

Afterwards, we will continue on to the airport to catch a short flight to Santa Marta, and then take a scenic private transfer (approximately 1 1/2 hours) to Palomino, a charming coastal town in the Guajira region. Settle in, soak up the views of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and get ready for some quality beach time.

Your hosted tours are "Land Only", what does this mean?
"Land only" refers to a travel package that includes all the components of a holiday, such as accommodation, transportation, some meals and activities, but excludes international airfare.
The benefits of a "land only" package:
Flexibility: By booking your own flights separately, you have the freedom to choose your preferred airlines, routes, and departure dates. This allows you to customise your travel plans according to your preferences and budget.
Cost savings: By excluding airfare, "land only" packages can often be more affordable. This is especially beneficial for those who have access to discounted or reward flights, or individuals who prefer to book their flights using frequent flyer miles.
Personalisation: By having control over your flights, you have the opportunity to extend your trip or make stopovers along the way, adding more destinations to your itinerary.
Reunion: Maybe your best friend lives in another city, country or continent? What better way to meet up, than on an organised adventure!

I'm worried that I may be too old or too young for your tours, will my age be a problem?
The average age of women on my tours is 40's - 60's, but I actively welcome women of all ages. And, as I have already mentioned, the only requirements are that you have a reasonable degree of fitness, a sense of adventure and a fabulous sense of humour to join!

Ciudad Perdida |
Journey to the fabled Lost City of Teyuna, an archaeological site hidden within the jungle-topped mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria, on the upper reaches of the Buricata River. This ancient site, although known to local tribes, was not "rediscovered" until 1972 and predates Machu Picchu by 650 years. Accessible only through a moderate multi-day jungle trek, the site features a 1,200-step stone staircase that guards its entrance. The climb to the top is rewarded by stunning views and the opportunity to explore
impressive tiled roads, terraces, and plazas that are intricately carved into the mountainside.
Visiting Machu Picchu can be as simple as jumping on a train, whereas visiting the Ciudad Perdida is a true accomplishment
that takes time, effort and perseverance.
